  4. Wet cough child. Anything one must do?

My 9 month old daughter had cold and now has wet productive cough. We have seen a doctor and he advised to just let it be and it will get well on its own. Just using steam and some natural remedies. My question is - in adults we cough spit out and get rid of chest congestion. Since a 9 Month old child cannot, how does a child get rid of the phlemn, I think she swallows everyone she coughs. Is there anything one must do?
