What are eye laser surgery side effects

I am a 48 year old male, diagnosed with Cataract in both my eyes. I have been advised laser eye surgery for both the eyes. What are the side-effects of laser surgery of the eye? Is it safe? Does it cause any major effects on the body too? Can it ever be fatal?
