Before the extraction local anaesthesia will be given to numb your tooth and surrounding tissues. The severity of procedure depends upon the position of the tooth in the gum which is determined by X-ray . X-ray can be taken either in the clinic itself(RVG) or your dentist may ask you to get a full mouth X-ray done(OPG). If the tooth hasn't come through the gum, a small cut (incision) will be made in the gum to access it. A small piece of the bone covering the tooth may also need to be removed. The tooth may be cut into smaller parts to make it easier to remove through the opening. There's less need to make an incision if the tooth has broken through the gum. You'll feel some pressure just before the tooth is removed. This is because your dentist needs to widen the tooth socket by rocking the tooth back and forth before taking it out. Surgery shouldn't be painful, because the area will be numb. However, if you feel pain during the procedure, tell your dentist to give you more anaesthetic. If an incision is given then your dentist will place sutures to approximate tissues. Sutures can be dissolvable or you have to get them removed after 7-10days by your dentist which is again a painless procedure . Also you will be prescribed antibiotics and pain killers which will take care of your post operative pain and swelling. Cost for such extractions can range from 2500INR -7000INR depending on severity of the procedure. Post care instructions have to taken for next 24hours which include avoiding warm food intake, no spitting or rinsing, no warm compressions, and application of ice as explained by your dentist.
