Hello. It must be a stressful time for you being abroad, having responsibilities of family and having an injury. This sounds like a significant thumb injury. Any advice depends on what is left of your thumb, and how functional it is. Once the wound is healed, it will help to see a hand specialist to discuss this in detail. It is important because hand function is directly related to your ability to do manual work, and thumb function is essential for basic grip & grasp. Hence, please let the wound heal, and consult appropriately. Also, please find out about your rights to seek compensation as this is a work related injury. Best wishes. Dr M Vashishtha FRCS
