Get DirectionsThe foundation of this prestigious medical institution was laid in 1906 by the Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, during his second visit to India for the Coronation Durbar. His Majesty, the King Emperor, gave his approval to establish the institution, which was named in his honor. Since its inception, the institution has been dedicated to providing high-quality medical education, maintaining strong ethical standards, conducting pioneering research, and offering excellent patient care.The Department of Pediatric Surgery at King George's Medical University (KGMU) began as a pediatric surgical service in 1970 and became a separate unit in 1978. It was later upgraded to a full department in 1998. The department offers a specialized MCh course in Pediatric Surgery, admitting two candidates each year. The department provides advanced neonatal and pediatric surgical services, not only to the local population but also to patients from neighboring states like Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, and even from neighboring countries like Nepal and Bhutan. Special areas of focus include congenital conditions such as short colon, esophageal atresia, tracheo-esophageal fistula, anorectal malformations, and exstrophy bladder. Recently, the department has also begun performing gastrointestinal, bronchoscopy, urological endoscopies, and other therapeutic procedures.With a bed strength of 72, including 8 neonatal intensive care cots, the department is equipped with modern medical equipment like incubators, neonatal ventilators, and endoscopes for gastrointestinal, urological, and airway procedures. The department sees a high volume of patients, with over 10,000 outpatient visits and around 1,200 inpatient admissions annually. Around 1,000 surgeries are performed each year, including major procedures and surgeries on neonates. The department is also active in research, with ongoing projects related to congenital malformations, spina bifida, and other pediatric surgical conditions. Its faculty has contributed extensively to national and international conferences and publications.Its is a private hospital
