Mentored by Prof. Jack Pepys who perfected the technique of Skin Prick Test for Allergy, Dr. Anand established the first Allergy-Immunology Clinic of Karnataka under an organized setup in 1978 in Bangalore. In addition to his parents, Shri Yashwant Chittal mentored him especially on the literary front. In his early part of professional career, he has been blessed with the mentorship of Prof. Roy Patterson, Prof. M. Subbaiah, Prof. N.D. Purushotham and Dr. B.G. Rudrappa.Dr. Anand is a former President of the Indian Academy of Allergy and is the Founder Vice President of the Academy. He is basically an E.N.T. Surgeon but most of his professional time is devoted to Allergy-Immunology Specialty. Dr Anand has chapters to his credit in three textbooks apart from publications in scientific journals and literary and medical articles in popular Kannada Magazines. He has been the scientific program convener and editor of Indian Academy of Allergy and has been the Chief Program Convener & Organizer for the 4 national Level Physician Training Workshops on Allergy, Asthma and Applied Immunology.Apart from his research interest in clinical allergy, Dr. Anand has a keen interest in restoration and protection of environment. He has spearheaded a few environmental restoration projects in Bangalore, major ones among them being the protection and restoration of Madivala Lake and Lalbagh Lake; and cleaning of Lalbagh Botanical Garden of Bio non-degradable material involving school children as an educational and awareness program. Through ‘Centre for Human Resource Development’ of which he was the Director for Projects in the Divisions of Community Care and, Ecology and Environment, and through ‘Prajna Vedike’ under the umbrella of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Dr. Anand has conducted seminars on Public Education, Care of the Elderly and Environmental Awareness at many educational institutions, and at the Indian Institute of World Culture and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. With his interest in the healthcare of tribals and villagers, he has conducted 32 Free Asthma-Allergy Camps for poor people at various places in Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh.
I met Dr P. Anand during 1980s when I was suffering from severe allergic asthama attacks. I took full course of allergy treatment from him and within a year I was completely relieved from asthama attacks. He is a God sent doctor to me with magical hands. Thank you Doctor.
