Alcoholic and Depressed
My brother, Dharmendra, who works in UP Police as a Constable, has got offensively alcoholic and facing/posing following problems:- 1. He started drinking occasionally 5 years back but for last one year he is drinking alcohol - all kinds in excess. There is no fixed time to drink. 2. After drinking, he abuses harshly his wife, mother and his son. 3. He starts from home in morning to his work place but comes early drunken and lies totally about his whereabouts. 4. He raise suspicion of his wife's character and abuses her a lot without having any proof of wrongdoing by his wife. 5. He then approaches and urges his wife for sex and if she agrees, puts her to a harsh sexual behavior due to which his wife tends to avoid him now. 6. If denied, he threatens to commit suicide and on 2-3 occasions, he has attempted for the same - once by hanging on fan and once by drinking a mild but expired insect poison. All in my family are feeling helpless due to the above. please advise.

He needs to see a deaddiction psychiatrist. The alcoholism is treatable with good family support and personal motivation.
