Usually pleural fluid cytology will say whether it’s positive for malignant cells or not Here Pathologist is able to say the type of cancer too(SCC OR ADENOCARCINOMA) If pleural fluid is positive for adenoca. The its an inoperable cancer

It can be primary lung cancer spreading to pleura with deposits and effusion Or secondary cancer with pleura mets.. Needs PEC CT or CECT scan chest and abdomen , bone scan for stage and tumor evaluation Needs pleural fluid tapping for therapeutic purpose if symptomatic for effusion Biopsy from large accessible lesion with IHC to confirm or rule out origin .. If lung cancer needs EGFR ALK testing for targeted therapy...
