Grade 3 lateral meniscus tear

I had gone through MRI and the report said: 1. Grade 3 lateral meniscus tear 2. Edema of head and neck of fibula and lateral tibial condyle. Haven't consulted the doc yet. Please explain  about the above report. Is surgery necessary? If surgery is must, what will be the recovery period? Will it be curable with tables or exercise?

You will need arthroscopic meniscal repair+\-partial meniscectomy. It will take around 3-4 weeks for complete recovery
