Anxiety OCD Issues
Hi, I am having mental health problems like poor memory, slow understanding, anxiety, antisocial, doing things in sequence, repeatedly checking my behaviors in social situations. After getting advice from practo Q&A, I went to psychiatrist. I told my symptoms and he asked few questions and suggested SSRI meds and told that if symptoms don't improve, I will have to take therapy. The thing is I am not convinced. He didn't do a thorough analysis of my problems. He didn't ask me answer a questionnaire or did any other methodologies and simply told that its OCD and prescribed the SRRI meds. Thats it. Is it the normal way of diagnosis of mental health problems? I thought like a thorough analysis eill be done for these mental problems. Please advise and help

Dear,  friend I'm happy that after taking a expert opinion from practo u went and met  expert. What I understand from ur issue is , lot of misconceptions or a cognitive error in u ,Eg . Like I'm jittery ,so I'm anxious r anxiety disorder, 2.I'm fearfull ,so panic disorder. 3.I'm not supposed to in the way I'm now, so I'm sociopath and antisocial. 4 .I have to live in such a way (should live in such way  I want only r im quitting). Imagine if u don't feel these things in a situation where u r suppose to feel u r no more normal individual. Eg.My father is sick,my dog is dead, how am I suppose to feel. (Happy r sad ) . Sad right ,yes but the duration and intensity matters.( I lost 10 rupees worrying for 3months not doing any work, India lost cricket match I feel like commiting suicide.. I hope now u understand from normal to abnormal. The thinking pattern of urs should be modified. For all these things. What I suggest u is simultaneously meet a clinical psychologist who can work on ur cognitive error(if found). The therapy are Cognitive therapy(includes Cognitive behaviour therapy, Socratic questioning, cognitive restructuring, jacobson relaxation techniques) will help u to recover. All the best. Avoid internet searches about ur illness and treatment...
Next Steps
meet a clinical psychologist
Health Tips
no internet search regarding  ur  condition. Ur profession also matters (what do u do friend ).

I can empathize with you but definitely would like to know what behavior u are labelling with antisocial. You may have social phobia as  you check your behavior in social situations it means you are very much cautious about what other would think of you which itself show that you are suffering somewhere with phobia which is not unusual to find in patient with OCD. In social phobia antisocial behavior not that much common. Thats why I am asking about your behaviour you take as antisocial. Sometime medications in lower doses doesnt show enough relief in sypmtoms . So your psychiatrist may need to increase the dose of whatever the SSRI you are taking. Slow understanding also a part of your psychopathology. So no harm in adding propranolol initially in 20 mgm doses. I think continue with your psychiatrist and discuss your problem as per his advise.
