Cataract surgery
Dear Doctor, My mom (age 47) has undergone cataract surgery in one eye. One she can see things at long distance clearly. She is also a diabetic patient. Now soon she will have to undergo surgery for the next eye also. Doctor is suggesting her to keep a different focal lens so that she can see near objects. So basically she will be able to see things at far distance using one eye and other can be used for seeing near objects. Is this the right approach?

Your mother has been implanted monofocal lens in one eye for distance, now she can see distance clearly without glass  &will need eyeglass for near from operated eye & in 2nd eye  she should be made slightly myopic so that she would be able to see mobile no. etc without glass, she must be implanted monofocal &should be slightly over corrected because if she is not carrying eyeglass  in market she will able to see price printed on the packet .Your mother is diabetic ,so I think acryosof single piece by ALCON  will be best &I am implanting it in diabetic patients since 20 yrs without any problems, you should  never go for multi focal lens in 2nd eye ,with regards
