If your problem is chronic... You can try doing cervical exercises. Its not advisable to do exercising when having severe pain. It depends on the amount of strian you are having in your daily activities, your profession, postural and other factors. 1. Limit the activities which causes increase in the pain like lifting heavy weights, sitting in the same posture for a longer time, etc. 2. Try sleeping on hard surface without a pillow( or else you can use a thin blanket as a pillow) 3. Try putting a warm compress of you are experiencing more pain. 4. If you are in profession demanding computer work try taking break for about five  minutes once an hour or two. These are only for management and your problem may recur.
