Chest pain
My 17 year old son developed center left chest pain while playing ice hockey yesterday. Took him to the ER after he arrived home which he had 8 out 10 pain when he would move his body. He felt a little better when he lay flat on his back. The ER EKG was normal and the doctor said that it was muscular and to take pain meds. Today 24 hours later the pain subsided to a 3 out of 10 and then the pain started to radiate into the left shoulder. What could be the problem and how can he get relief?

17 is very young, but I would recommend an echocardiogram to check for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. But otherwise, yes it could just be some costochondritis type pain that can be treated with NSAIDS like Naproxen or Diclofenac.
