According to me... You must immediately get your dental treatment done... As... if cavity progresses further... It may lead to periapical pathology.. Dental X ray is mandatory prior to start of treatment... For significant good results...
Next Steps
Patient should immediately visit dentist
Health Tips
Immediately start with betadine gargles and a mouthwash... To keep that area clean.

If you have pain while eating cold, then probably you have reversible pulpitis...which can be treated by filling the hole in the tooth...but if you have pain while eating hot too, then most probably it will go for a root canal treatment followed by a crown.
Next Steps
please visit a dentist as soon as possible to avoid a more painful situation.

Hi, As you mentioned you can see a cavity in your tooth which is painful/sensitive to food and cold.
Next Steps
Please get your dental check up done soon. Possibly it may get filled with dental composite (most preferred) or dental cement (economical option),  but in case the cavity is big then the root canal treatment (treatment of your tooth nerves) is advised. Take care.
Health Tips
If root canal treatment is advised then don't forget to get a tooth cap onto the tooth, as cap gives strength to the tooth. Clean your teeth with water after meals to avoid lodging of the food there.
