Correct size of stockings for DVT
My Dad is having DVT, and his left leg got swollen and doctor advised him to wear stocking ( Class 2 elastic Stocking above knee). In Chennai he gave me the number of a medicine store who was supposed to come to our place and after getting the correct measurements he was supposed to provide the stocking. But unfortunately due to shortage of time and we thought we will get the stocking in our home town too, we came to our home town Andal ( District: Burdwan, State: West Bengal, Pin: 713321). But after reaching here in Andal we came to know that it's not available here, so we have to order it from somewhere else, but we are really confused about the size and type and from where we can get that. Please suggest me. Left thigh size :21inches Right thigh size :17inches

To know correct size, measure thigh circumference 10cm above patella (a small bone at knee joint). After measuring correctly, Refer to following size chart Small           26-32cm.   or     10-12.5inches Medium.      32-40cm    or     12.5-16inches Large            40-50cm    or     16-20inches Extra large    50-62cm.  or     20-24.5inches You can also purchase stockings online. But it is necessary that you buy of correct size otherwise it will not help. Visco is a reliable and durable brand.

guidelines for varicose veins 1. leg elevation- keep two pillows under the mattress at leg end and elevate the height of leg end. when patient with varicose veins sleeps in this arrangement the blood drainage becomes easy and there will be no swelling in legs. 2. after bath in morning, keep legs elevated for about half an hr (as per in instruction 1). this will reduce all the swelling. then wear the stockings as per instructions on the packing box. wearing stockings with a swelling in legs will be painful and it will damage the legs further. 3. wear stockings throughout the day even though the patient is moving only in the house. do not wear stockings at night. at night keep legs elevated as per instruction 1. 4. stockings can be washed when  they become dirty. just soak them in water for 10 15min, gently remove excess water and hang them to dry. do not twist to remove excess water. it reduces their elasticity.
