As a psychologist, I would recommend that your friend seeks both emotional support and practical guidance. He may benefit from therapy with a psychologist or counselor who specializes in grief and depression. Therapy can provide a safe space for him to express his emotions, process his grief, and learn coping strategies to manage his depression. Additionally, connecting him with financial counseling services can offer practical assistance in managing his financial stressors. Encouraging him to engage in self-care activities, such as exercise, spending time with supportive loved ones, and practicing relaxation techniques, can also help improve his mood and overall well-being. By seeking professional help and engaging in self-care, your friend can work towards overcoming his depression and finding hope for the future.
Next Steps
As a therapist, we can work collaboratively to support your friend through this challenging time. I can provide therapeutic guidance and support to help him navigate his emotions, develop coping strategies, and work towards healing from his grief and depression. Additionally, if he requires assistance in finding resources or accessing support services, I'm here to help facilitate that process. Together, we can create a personalized plan that addresses his emotional and practical needs, empowering him to move forward on his journey towards recovery and well-being. If you have any questions or concerns along the way, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Health Tips
Encourage him to seek professional help: Suggest that he considers therapy with a psychologist or counselor who specializes in grief and depression. Therapy can provide him with a safe space to express his emotions, process his grief, and learn coping strategies to manage his depression. Offer practical support: Help him research therapists in his area or provide recommendations if you know of any. Assist him in scheduling appointments and offer to accompany him to his sessions if he feels nervous or unsure. Listen without judgment: Be a supportive listener and allow him to express his feelings without judgment. Sometimes, having someone to talk to can provide immense relief and comfort. Encourage self-care: Remind him of the importance of self-care activities such as exercise, spending time outdoors, engaging in hobbies, and getting enough sleep. Encourage him to prioritize activities that bring him joy and relaxation. Provide reassurance and encouragement: Let him know that it's okay to seek help and that he's not alone in his struggles. Offer words of encouragement and remind him that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Check in regularly: Keep in touch with him regularly and check in on how he's feeling. Let him know that you're there for him whenever he needs someone to talk to or lean on for support. Educate yourself: Take the time to educate yourself about depression and grief so that you can better understand what your friend is going through. This will enable you to provide more informed support and empathy.

Hi, I am a counselling psychologist and I have experience helping individuals going through similar concerns. I highly recommend he seeks help from a Psychologist to get a chance to talk about how he is feeling. Sometimes not being able to deal with grief leads to other concerns like Depression.
Next Steps
He can reach out to Pro-bono psychologists online since he has financial restraints.
Health Tips
As a friend you should be able to help him get help as for people going through depression its very difficult to seek help. Another suggestion is do not label his concern as Depression without him actually getting a diagnosis.

Hi, sorry to hear about what your friend is undergoing. It appears that he is undergoing complicated grief. Expressive writing therapy is what I recommend in such cases to bring the client to the acceptance stage of grief. Further, he needs to consult a clinical psychologist who is a CBT practitioner. CBT is very effective at treating depression.
Next Steps
consult a clinical psychologist who is a CBT practitioner.

Hi, I am sorry to hear that your friend is going through a tough phase for a year now. Losing a loved one is extremely painful. One requires the right emotional and social support to grieve and process the emotions. However it can become challenging sometimes to deal with, and it becomes crucial to approach a professional to address the issue. In this case, there is a possibility that your friend might be going through trauma and/or clinical depression.
Next Steps
Kindly approach a clinical psychologist to get it diagnosed based on the symptoms. If required the clinical psychologist will then suggest if medication is needed and will refer to a psychiatrist.
Health Tips
Will suggest to be more empathetic towards your friend and in case of any self-harm thoughts or behaviors immediately reach out to helpline numbers.

If he is in a state of depression for a long time as you have mentioned, I would suggest consulting a psychiatrist. He may need some medication for some time. Once he starts feeling better after that, he needs to consult a psychologist to work out strategies to deal with stressful situations.
Next Steps
