Hello, I was diagnosed with MDD Depression in September and was prescribed SNRI ventab which upon consumption had strong side-effects. I could not take additional anxiety and pain along with dysfunctional libido through meds on top of my MDD. Do all antidepressants have side effects ? How long do I have to tolerate the adverse side effects ? How to have minimum side-effects from medication ? I am also experiencing mild cognitive impairment / pseudo dementia - I have to finish my thesis in a month and I am not able to complete it and this is further demotivating me and adding to the spiral. If any psychologist reads please also show a new perspective on how to heal and recover from MDD.

I understand your concerns. Antidepressants do have side-effects like any other medication but the effects are often negligible and managed conservatively. They are well tolerated in general. However, some are sensitive to medication nonetheless, like in your case.
Optimizing the current medication, or adding another medication as an adjuvant should do the trick.
There are more advanced treatment options like rTMS, which has relatively no side effects.
You mentioned memory deficits, it is more likely due to the fact that you haven't reached recovery yet. The issue seems to be untreated depression, not the result of concerned medication.
Thesis related pressure you are experiencing is reasonable. You should be able to cope with things much better once the meds are titrated to efficiency.
You should be using medication regularly for atleast 6-9 months more or less for maintenance. You will be able to reach complete recovery in the next few days.
All the best.

Hello, i understand how distressed you would be in your current situation. I need to share a bit about antidepressant, first is that almost every drug in medical science has some or other side effect but you need to choose the appropriate one by understanding and weighing pros and cons. In case of antidepressants there isn't much difference in efficacy, so here its more pertinent to choose by side effect profile. There is no need to tolerate intolerable side effect, just get the medicine changed. Consult a psychiatrist again, hope you stick to follow up too!
