It depends on how deeply the laser has been done. Also it depends on your skin type. If it has been done very deeply it may leave scars. If not it only causes pigmentation. Pigmentation is very common in Indian skin after any injury to the skin. This is called as post inflammatory hyperpigmentation in medical terms or PIH. Laser is also a type of injury to the skin. PIH can be treated quickly with depigmenting creams in 1 to 2 weeks. If left alone they can last upto 6 months in some cases. But generally resolve in 1 to 2 months. Hyperpigmentation is common if you expose the skin to sunlight or don't use a sunscreen for the first one week after the procedure. Please go back to your doctor and discuss the problem with him/her in detail so that you can use some depigmenting creams to quickly remove the hyperpigmentation. Warm regards. Dr. Rajdeep Mysore.
