Epilepsy and pregnancy
My wife was primary generalised epilepsy (no fault in brain) patient and using oxetol 300 daily 2 tablets. Now she was pregnant (4months) with normal baby growth which ia confirmed by gynecologist. I am bothering about the effect of oxcarbezepine on growing baby physically and mentally. Is oxetol is safe drug for growing baby? Pls clarify. Also give cautions. Thank you

Hi practo user, most medications used for epilepsy may affect the growth of the baby. However oxetol is one with minimum risk. It's best to inform the neurologist who is managing your wife's epilepsy treatment and also the gynaecologist about her condition and medications. Stopping the epilepsy medicine is risky and if the growth of the baby is normal as per sonography it is best to continue the medications, as a seizure during pregnancy could be more harmful to the mother and baby. I am sure if you inform the gynaecologist they will keep a close watch on the baby's growth and mother's health. Hope you find this helpful. Wish you and your family good health.
