My mother is having constant ringing sound in left ear and the hearing capability has been reduced to zero. According to the MRI there seems to be very slight swelling in a left ear nerve. The doctor is suggesting gamma therapy. Any suggestion on the side effects and effectiveness of the therapy?

Kindly share MRI images. Gamma Knife Is suggested for Brain and skull base tumours both benign as well as malignant. According to the symptoms presented by you the diagnosis seems to be an Acoustic Neuroma. What is the age of the patient? Kindly confirm Diagnosis prior to treatment.
Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery is not actually a kind of surgery but a focused beam of radiation given to shrink or treat the tumour. It is one of the best modes of treatment available for Acoustic Neuroma, especially in patients not willing or fit to undergo actual surgery. If the size of the tumour is very small it might be completely cured however the main aim of Gamma knife radiation is to shrink and halt the growth of the tumour.
