Hernia is a bulge or swelling in abdominal wall or groin that develops due to weakness in the underlying muscles. Often painless to begin with, hernias have a tendency to increase in size and may result in complications like incarceration and strangulation. They can be treated by mesh repair by open or laparoscopic surgery.
