Horizontal impacted wisdom tooth
I visited my dentist and after the xray it was found that i have horizontally impacted wisdom tooth in lower right area ( wisdom tooth not visible from outside , completely covered under the gum) . as of now , it's causing dull continuous pain around that area . My question is 1) Will i eventually have to get them removed ? 2) after the procedure do they stitch back the gum or stitch it partially like leaving a hole. 3) will i be unconscious during the procedure or numbed ?

If its a horizontally impacted wisdom tooth and causing you pain, then it definitely needs to be removed. The surgical site will be completely closed using stitches. You will be conscious during the procedure, and the area will be numbed by using local anesthesia. Although you can opt for general anesthesia where you will be completely unconcious for the procedure.

As your teeth is horizontally impacted, so extraction is the choice of treatment. Normally treatment is done under local anaesthesia, so you will be conscious. After extraction, doctor will do the suturing.

Hello, I am Dr. Kapil Saroha. I would like to explain a few things as to why it is to be removed. 1. Horizontally impacted tooth will try to come out and hence will generate pressure on adjacent tooth subsequently causing it to decay. 2. At this age as it erupts it will pain again and again. 3. If it damages adjacent teeth then it cant be reversed. 4. If it ia horizontal it will not help in chewing during any stage of life. 5. But adjacent tooth will serve for another 30-40 years. Secondly 1. Suturing is neccessary. 2. It will help close the site. 3. It will reduce chances kf food lodgement and hence i fection chances will be less. Thirdly You will be given anesthesia, but you will be ae to observe everything but pain will not be there.
Next Steps
get it removed asap
Health Tips
