How long does a laminectomy and discectomy take
Hi my mother is 62 year old. He is complaining of a typical nerve pain through the back after a jerk from a fall. The doctors says its due to compression of the nerve and will require laminectomy with discectome. What exactly would be the procedure for the same and is there any complications for the same as she has diabetes.

Laminectomy and discectomy involves removal of diseased portion of ligamentum flavum and the doc that is potentially compression on the cord or root with reduced canal volume in order to decompress the vertebral and root canal. One level procedure may take 1.5 hours at max. Two level procedure may take 2.5 hours max.
