Hi An ingrown toe nail might lead to abcess due to secondary infection Treatment with oral antibiotics will cure the infection if present but not the cause(in growing nail) which is the precipitating factor for the pain or infection. So it should be removed by nail removal procedure
Next Steps
consult a general surgeon for minor surgical management. it's a day care procedure Wich can be done under local anesthesia

Ingrowing toe nail with infection causes pain and some times form an abscess, needs definitive surgery, which was done under local Anaesthesia, it is a simple day care procedure, depends upon involvement of nail the nail, either needs partial or full removal of involved nail along with nail matrix, simultaneously needs antibiotics and pain medication for a few days, if partially removed or incomplete removal of nail may leads to recurrence of symptoms, my advice is better to meet near by surgeon. Antibiotics will give temporary relief. Better to avoid frequent wetting of nail bed,  2nd point,  if already ingrowing toe nail was removed by your surgeon,There is a chance of getting fungal infection or bacterial infection to nail bed because of  improper cleaning of nail bed or exposed to dust. Which needs some antifungal creams or antibiotic  cream to apply on the nail bed, and Keep nailbed dry and clean.
Next Steps
Continue antibiotics if any signs of infection, like fever, severe pain. And immediately meet near by surgeon for further management.
Health Tips
Avoid wetting of toenail frequently, don't wear tight shoes or foot wear, don't cut the toe nail ends sharply, keep your nails clean and remove any dust under nail frequently. Needs good nutrition for healthy nails, your nails will tell your over all health.

a decent surgery performed gives relief most of the times but ingrown toe nail is a recurring problem if proper care is not taken after procedure . Antibiotics and analgesic s only give symptom relief but not the cure. consult surgeon.
