Having taken birth control pill for a year(as part of PCOD treatment), after the discontinuation of the same I am getting periods very frequently(twice a month).
Is this irregularity of periods normal after discontinuation of birth control pill?

No. It is not normal.
Please get your Sonography done for follicular study and also your FSH, LH and PRL level (without any hormones). That may give us an idea how to regulate your Ovulation and that in turn will regularise your periods.
