It is due to patellar maltracking. Do VMO exercise. Consult knee surgeon.

Hi mam! Likely cause of pain may be due to Chondromalacia. Basic pathology lies in patellar cartilage softening or degenerative changes. This usually gives pain in young females while one sits for a while in knee bent position (squatt, crosslegged) and typically on climbing stairs downwards. It is advised to stop sitting cross legged and squatt. Exercises as advised earlier for VMO muscle is must. You can try an offloader brace along with phyaio and electrotherapy.
