Nervousness and high BP
Dear Doctor, Good Afternoon I have been suffering occasional anxiety issues from the past few years. But it has been agrevated alot in the past few months. I have sometime high heart rate when i am tensed or anxious. But one thing i have noticed more is that, whenever i visit a hospital for a regular checkup, i get nervous and when the nurse check bp using the machine, i am more getting more nervous and always thinks about that my bp will be high and what will i do if my bp rises and all. In the last few months i have visited 3 time in hospital bp reading were 140/80, 150/100, 150/90. But while i reach home i feel relaxed and no anxiousness. As per the blood pressure range, my bp seems to be on a higher range. I have never faced any heart problem like chest pain, discomfortness or nor breathing issue. Am i in need of bp medicines or it is a psychological problem that require psychiatry treatement?. Please help me.

This is a common phenomenon in people with anxiety or panic disorder. I do not think you have hypertension. The BP is raising in the hospital due to anxiety. However to be sure you can get a holter BP monitor from any hospital. You need to wear it on your arm for 24 hrs continuously..itll keep measuring your BP at frequent intervals without your knowledge. If the average in that comes high then you can visit a general physician for Hypertension treatment. Meanwhile please visit a psychiatrist to get treatment for anxiety since it has become worse in past few months.

Hello. It could be due to anxiety which causes increased heart rate and blood pressure. You need to get evaluated by a psychiatrist for anxiety issues and then blood pressure needs to be monitored at home in a relaxed state. Only then it can be determined whether its anxiety or blood pressure issue.
Next Steps
Consult a psychiatrist
