My mom has had a total hip replacement. It got infected, so they removed it and put in an antibiotic spacer. Infection is clear and she is ready to get the new hip. To make matters worse, she fell and broke her femur. She is going to have surgery to fix the femur but the doctor here said she can't put in the hip and the femur at the same time in one surgery. Is this true? With fear of infection if we continue to open her up, why can't we do it all at once?

Dear Sir, we all want our loved ones to go through the agony of surgery only once, but many a times, it's not possible, both from patient and doctors perspective. When 2 long surgeries are done together the patient, may not tolerate the complications of drugs, moreover surgeon will feel it difficult.
Do not hurry, get it done in two stages.
