Passing out
I had a tooth pulled yesterday and i passed out four hours later. Is that normal? Why did that happen?

Post extraction syncope or passing out are caused due to the following: 1. If you had a surgical removal of wisdom tooth which tends be a stressful procedure for some patient. 2. If you had been to dentist for tooth removal without having food. Never visit a dentist empty stomach until advised by dentist as dental procedure cause anxiety induced syncope. 3. If you have low hemoglobin (anemic) 4. At present weather, even dehydration could also be one of the factor.

1. Do not spit for next 24hrs of tooth extraction, gulp your saliva. 2. Do not gargle for next 24 hrs of extraction. 3. do not brush in the area of tooth removal. 4. maintain oral hygiene in extraction area by keeping the area clean by gargling after 24hrs with salt and lukewarm water. 5. Hydrate yourself with fluids and soft food as you will be on medication. 6. avoid spicy, hot or hard food for at least 5-7 days. 7. avoid drinking juice with a straw. 8. avoid smoking or drinking for next 7 to 10 days. The stress of the procedure, the anesthesia effect and the blood loss would've made you tired due to which you'd fall asleep. Keep yourself well hydrated by aiming to drink 3 liters of water per day and follow the steps as advised by your dentist. If there is a recurrent similar situation, continuous vomiting, severe headache, loss of memory and uncontrolled bleeding you should visit the ER at the earliest.
