Psychology story assignment

I am doing research for a story that I am writing and I have an idea for one of the characters but I cannot find the name for it anywhere. It is where the person perceives another person who doesn't truly exist. The imaginary person is actually a manifestation of his subconscious and acts out the will of said subconscious mind. Can you help me?
