Is peripheral blood smear (PBS) test and general blood picture (GBP) one and the same thing ? Please clear my doubt.

CBC is a machine generated report but Peripheral blood smear or general blood picture is the reporting done on slide made by patient blood to know about the morphology and number of of various blood cells( RBC , WBC, Platelets) . It is specifically done by certified Pathologist only..

No they're different. CBP tells us the individual blood counts. Peripheral smear tells us the type of blood cells and abnormalities associated with them and helps to further confirm diagnosis like Iron deficiency anemia or macrocytic and other types of anemia.

CBC is a count of various cells in blood While peripheral smear is microscopic examination where you look at the structure of cells , rather than their count. They also look for other things like parasites in a Peripheral smear.
