Recurrent Herpes labialis
Hi, I am 25 year old male having a condition of recurrent herpes labialis (cold sores) since age 12. It usually occurs once every 2-3 months and lasts for about 5 days. I am following medication that was prescribed to me 3 years ago by a dermatologist. When I am having an outbreak, I take Acivir-400 DT 3 times daily for 5 days. My question is: 1. Is there any better course of treatment so that the number of days it takes to heal can be reduced? 2. Is it possible to reduce or eliminate future outbreaks by taking the medication continuously for few months? If yes, what medication and for how many months? Thank you
