My wife's HBA1C report 2 days ago reported reading of 7.9, average glucose reading 180 and High HSR. Triglycerides are fine. How high is it, what is the line of treatment recommended, can it be reversed through diet and lifestyle correction and whether she can reverse and not use any medication. How long is the recovery likely to take. Thanks

HbA1C shows diabetes. HbA1C is gold standard to diagnose diabetes and is shows average glucose over 3 month period. Her goal is 6.5- 7%. To prevent complications of diabetes. The first step is improving diet ( avoid juices, oily / fast foods, limit carbohydrate intake ie rice, pasta, pizza, sweets) , exercise 30 min daily for 5 days a week at least. She will require medications additionally. The choice of medication will depend on her kidney and liver function, weight. Would recommend obtaining HbA1C in 3 months to assess response to treatment and lifestyle changes. At that time, depending on her response, we can determine whether her condition can be reversed or not. Also needs to check home blood glucose twice a day.
