Runny nose and body pain
I got my lower right 3rd molar extracted on 24/09/24, after finishing my antibiotic course for 5 days, I'm experiencing flu like symptoms with headache, runny nose and body aches. Should I be worried because I'm traveling as well. Thanks

Dear Post-extraction flu-like symptoms are common. However, considering your travel plans, it's essential to assess the situation. Possible explanations: 1. Residual infection: Bacteria can cause symptoms after antibiotic completion. 2. Viral infection (unrelated to extraction): Coincidental flu or cold. 3. Dry socket: Painful, exposed bone in the extraction site. Consult your dentist or a local physician urgently if: 1. Severe pain or swelling 2. Fever over 102°F (39°C) 3. Pus or discharge from the extraction site 4. Difficulty swallowing or breathing Travel precautions: 1. Carry your antibiotic prescription and dental records. 2. Pack pain relievers (e.g., acetaminophen or ibuprofen). 3. Maintain good oral hygiene. Self-care: 1. Rest and hydration 2. Over-the-counter flu medication (consult your physician) 3. Warm salt water rinses for soothing Book an appointment upon your return for a follow-up evaluation. Stay safe, and enjoy your travels! Best regards, Dr. Pratikshit Anand Additional advice: - Monitor your temperature and symptoms. - Avoid strenuous activities. - Keep your dentist informed about your travel plans and any concerns. Please consult your dentist or physician for personalized guidance.

Nothing to worry about. Do warm saline water rinses 3-4 times daily and steam inhalation. Visit your dentist if symptoms do not subside within 3-5 days.
