It will be good to rule out of there is any fracture. Move the foot in all directions and try weight bearing. If its possible with slight pain, chances of not having fracture are more.
Next Steps
Go to a physiotherapist.. Proper assessment +diagnosis +treatment is required. Specially the reduction of pain+strengthening exercises.
Health Tips
At home.. Rest+ice pack twice /thrice a day+crepe(compression) bandage+elevation of foot on a pillow +use thrombophob gel twice daily+ankle back n forth movement along  with clockwise and anticlockwise rotations at every 2 hours interval. You can also apply some painkiller gel after icing.. Take care.

Hello there,,,,,well ankle sprains are quit painful but luckly they heal quickly too..... however sprains around ankle can be severe too....initially all ankle sprains will pain...and there will be swelling and pain on movement....the best thing to do in this scenario which you already did is to apply ice...if you can put crush ice in a plastic bag and then apply over the ankle with a towel covering...then its the best thing.... Also try and keep your leg elevated over pillow to reduce the swelling....some Physios do advice putting crepe bandage for compression...however i am not very satisfied with the results i got on my athletes n patients with it...so u may or may not do it.
Next Steps
after your swelling subsides should be about 72hrs ie 3 days....try n see if u can bear weight....but if you still feel pain and the discolouration is there...then you need to go for xrays and possibly even MRI to rule out ligament injury. do resort back to me for any furthur queries Regards & take care.

Dark blue color means that there was possibly an internal bleed, for which you have correctly done ice packs. Keep the limb elevated on two pillows, give rest to the injured body part for a few days, take pain killer on sos basis. The clot usually takes a few days to resolve, which may be even two to three weeks at times. An x-ray of affected part will provide additional info regarding further intervention needed, if any

Nice move of applying ice. Check if it hurts when you move your ankle up and down or slight right and left. Also check if it is possible to bear some weight on affected ankle, that will rule out any possibility of major fracture without x-ray although you must get one done as soon as possible. If everything is alright that is no fracture and only sprain Perfecto , you apply some topical cream like thrombophob which reduces internal clots and maintains normality as soon as possible. Few exercises which are to be graded gradually to strengthen ankle and ROM exercises to retain range of motion
Next Steps
Do the fundamental checks mentioned above like range and stress test. Get an x-ray done asap and upload it
Health Tips
Don't use hot fermentation what so ever until you get a x-ray done and get clearance from a medical personnel. Dont let your foot hang . Keep your calf muscles contacting/moving and relaxing to avoid any chances of dvt / in simpler words blood clotting in calves. Stay healthy.be healthy
