Folic acid is one of the B vitamin (Vitamin B9)..it has important role in fertility. It prevents birth defects of baby's brain and spine( neural tube defects) in developing fetus. It can be taken in other conditions where Vit B9 supplimentation is required like anaemia and some other conditions too. It's as safe as other vitamins if taken in recommended dose.
