Vomiting in 1st trimester
My wife is 6weeks pregnant and she has this issue of excess vomiting.doctor prescribed her to take 4mg ondansetron every day, twice. Is it safe to take this medicine in pregnancy? If not... What other medication would be useful. Our doctor is a busy lady and an arrogant one. I am considering finding another consultant

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are suffering with nausea in pregnancy. Yes ondansetron is safe to take in pregnancy. you may wish to consider some general measures too. Drinking enough fluids throughout the day to stay hydrated is important. Having a piece of dry toast first thing on waking before brushing teeth can also help. You may try keeping a piece of raw ginger along the gum and sucking on it to curb nausea. There are several videos on the internet about acupressure points to help with nausea and you can buy sickness bands to wear on the wrist. What often helps is to put the nausea into the perspective of the unborn baby as expressing its preferences chemically. So desire for some foods and aversion to others can be understood and managed in this way. If the vomiting or nausea gets really bad she may require iv fluids, so its better to keep nibbling and drinking rather than avoid eating for fear of the vomiting. hope this helps best wishes
