Wisdom Teeth removal
A general question. When impacted upper wisdom tooth is extracted, does the corresponding lower wisdom tooth of the same side also need to be extracted, even if it is fully erupted and not causing any problem? If yes then why so?

Ideally it should be extracted as it will cause problem in future. As there is nothing in opposite jaw to keep it in same position, it will keep on supra erupting. This Supra-eruption might cause problem at some point of time.

Ideally the opposing wisdom tooth on that particular side should be removed. Otherwise in the long run the opposing wisdom tooth will supra erupt and will cause food lodgement in that area as well as increasing the risk of caries. Plus there might be TMJ pain later on because of occlusal disharmony. Plus wisdom tooth is a vestigial organ in our body. It doesn't serve any function in mastic action. Therefore taking all such things into consideration, removing the opposing wisdom tooth is a more sensible thing to do sooner rather than later.

Yes it's better to remove to avoid future complications such as supra eruption that happens mainly due to lack of opposing tooth. If you don't mind  the complications then don't get it removed.
Next Steps
Make sure wisdom tooth is removed by an oral surgeon.

If it's not creating any problem, you don't have to extract lower teeth. When your upper tooth is not there, just below it's counterpart lower tooth will slowly starts over erupting because as there is no resistance from upper tooth. That time food lodgement problem will be there in between that lower tooth and it's side tooth. In that situation you need extraction of lower wisdom tooth.

Our teeth are maintained in a balance in our mouths by the contact between upper and lower teeth. This is called as occlusion. So when we plan an extraction of an upper wisdom molar, the corresponding lower wisdom molar becomes functionallu waste tooth since it has no opposing tooth. As a rule, any tooth which is not in use becomes further weak. Also, since the contact is missing this tooth starts to supraerupt towards the space that became available after the upper extraction. This happens since the lower tooth does not have anything to hit onto or bite onto. This is called supra eruption. After couple of years, this supraerupted tooth can start hitting the gums of the upper wisdom molar area and lead to pain and ulceration also. Patients come at that point with the complain of having pain in upper wisdom molar area, even though that particular tooth was extracted. They are then informed its because of the supraerupted lower wisdom molar. To avoid such problems, we advise our patients to plan the opposing wisdom tooth extraction in same sitting. Bit this is only for a wisdom molar, as they are vestigeal ( extra teeth). Not for any other tooth. Hope this helps

Ideally we should avoid extraction if possible. Until and unless wisdom tooth is not causing any harm v should not go for extraction.

Hi ! Well, first of all the wisdom tooth is a vestigeal tooth (no use for eating, chewing etc.). Secondly, when its fully erupted but without the opposing upper wisdom tooth, it will supra erupt (erupt more than normal in the mouth) causing some issues. Sooner or later these teeth need to be extracted, so it's your call.
Next Steps
Any episode of pain or food lodgement, get it extracted by an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon.
