Hello everyone, my name is Sheela Bhatt, 48yr,belongs to Bengaluru. I have been a housewife all my life leading a simple lifestyle with primarily a basic vegetarian diet. So, during November 2016 when I experienced a swelling in my right eye lid, I assumed it to be a simple because I did not have any pain. But to be on a safer side, my family and I visited Narayana Netralaya where my consulting doctor suspected the swelling to be cancer, hence suggested biopsy to confirm if it is cancer so as to help us plan our next few months of treatment. The biopsy results confirmed the dreaded cancer. Support from family, helped me overcome the scare and actually face the reality of fighting it. Extended family friend suggested Dr.SK Gupta who is an expert in the field of Stem cell transplant and an Hemato - Oncologist, to become our primary doctor. Neither I nor my family had any idea of whom to approach, but since Dr. SK Gupta seemed like a very good doctor, we approached him. Upon meeting him and discussing my case with him, I was instantly put at ease because he explained to me about the Lymphoma cancer- what is it ?, how can it be treated ? and the possibility of it recurring ? . Having knowledge about it really helped me with actually processing and dealing with cancer itself. Having Dr. SK Gupta as my doctor, helped me to believe that I will be able to overcome Cancer(T Cell Lymphoma) , so when the actual treatment plan was drawn up based on the extent of the cancer cells were distributed, even though it was 6 cycles of chemotherapy with 21 days gap between 2 cycles, even with the grueling prospects of this treatment, it always helped to know that I have an excellent support system in form of Dr. SK Gupta and my family. Dr. SK Gupta, explained to me in detail the possibility of side effects of chemotherapy, which usually starts after the 2nd cycle, side effects being, hair loss, stomach upset, frequent fevers. Since these were explained to me in detail, I was better prepared to the possibility of dealing with it. 4 chemotherapy cycles were completed in Bangalore, later Dr. SK Gupta shifted to Hyderabad to American Oncology Institute, Citizens Specialty hospital, but he never once dropped me as a patient. Since being motivated by him and taking the treatment, seemed to help me, we continued our treatment with him. His presence and motivation is one of the major things which helped me to overcome the side effects and focus on fighting the cancer. Once 4 cycles were completed, PET scan was done at to American Oncology Institute, Citizens Specialty hospital Hyderabad, where it was found that 95% of the cancer cells were destroyed, which is primarily due to love and support of family and my doctor. Autologous Hematopoietic Stem cell therapy is done to reduce the chances of the recurrence of my T cell Lymphoma. Having Dr. SK Gupta, really motivated me to stay positive and fight cancer, His support and motivation cannot be praised enough or appreciated enough. My family and I will always be indebted to him. For Autologous BMT I was in a sterile environment for around 20days and the experience was without any pain. I use to walk outside my BMT room two-three times a day and eat home made sterile food as well. At this point in time the caring and hospitality was very good, post that I was discharged. .

Dr. S K Gupta sir is a thorough professional regarding most of the aspects related to patient care, spent lot of time understanding the nature of the disease, past-history, medication etc and then came up with future course of action. He don’t need to flip through files across visits for anything as he remember. Very patient-centric approach, sir constantly says that it is your body that fight the disease for longer time and medicines are there to only help your body, If things are not good he first comforts the patient, family before slowly breaking the news and also suggest further course of treatment share with the all important family members.

My self M. D Nabi from UP (Bareli).My father Buddha khan 57yrs old, affected by significant fall in two out of three blood cells(Hemoglobin and Platelets) requiring blood transfusion. First in September 2016 my father problem is started with Typhoid fever, jaundice, for which we admitted in Majidia hospital in Delhi for 4-5 days .They did blood test ,all blood parameters are low so, they advised to do bone marrow test so, we went to AIIMS Hospital in Delhi. Again my father is feeling not good,next day we went and admit in (Apollo hospital) Delhi. They transfuse blood and platelet and second day 1unit of blood transfusion, and on fourth day they did bone marrow test and Endoscopy ,after some days report has come ,doctor told in endoscopy report there is a liver damage ,but bone marrow test is normal ,there is a chance of cancer ,and he advised to do bone marrow test after 2 months ,totally we are confused then we discharged . After 1 week my father started to feel week ,and we did CBC test near one lab ,all blood parameters are low (HB, Platelets) for this reason we admitted in Ramamurthy hospital in Bareli (UP),Again same thing blood transfusion ,they prescribed to do some investigation i.e Hep B virus DNA Quantitative ,according to this report ,doctor said this report is positive so,90% have chance to get cancer ,but proper treatment also not given ,after that we discharged . After some days again we tested CBC ,same thing all blood parameters are low ,and this time we went to Aligarh hospital in UP, there doctor told this is 100% bone cancer so, they referred to AIIMS hospital . Totally in these 2 months we consulted plenty of doctors and hospital but there is no proper answer .,Actually I am working in Bangalore so, I told my parents to come here, then we started to search oncology specialized hospital as outside doctor told us that your father is suffering from cancer and finally we went to HCG at Bangalore in First week of Feb 2017. We took appointment for Dr Sekhar Patil (medical oncologist) then he saw all reports and referred to Dr SK Gupta (Hematologist) for expert opinion and treatment. This was the time when I got proper answer of my father condition which is not a cancer and not life threating which gave almost relief to me and my family who is going with sleepless night from past few months. He advised some blood tests and meanwhile started on Tab Revolade & Inj EPO weekly. After continuing this treatment my father is recovering - no more red blood and platelets transfusion. Today (20-05-2017) we came to Hyderabad to show Dr S K Gupta and his platelet more than 1lac, Hb more than 13.0gm%. What I have understood in last 6-7month is that its long term disease and there may be recurrence of this disease (nothing 100% in life before starting any work) but proper detection of the underlying problem, guiding the patient and family members is crucial. I know this treatment may not be new in the world but using it at time is at most important. Before coming to hospital I don’t know Dr Gupta but by looking his way of taking care of patient and family, I would like to recommend Dr Gupta for any hematological disorders (cancerous or Non-cancerous) consultation and/or treatment if logistic can afford it .

My Sister is diagnosed with CML in 2008, we took treatment in gwalior however her disease progressed over the last couple of years and we Consulted Dr Gupta in May 2017. She was diagnosed with CML in advanced stage and her further treatment included Chemo, Medicine followed by allogenic bone marrow transplant (allo BMT). Dr Gupta counselled us about the current status of the disease and encouraged us to start treatment immediately. We are taking treatment from Dr Gupta for last 6 months and my sister’s condition has improved a lot. She is currently in the middle of transplant. I want to share our experience with stem cell donation required in allo BMT where stem cells are taken from the healthy donor who is genetically matched with the patient preferably sibling, or other family member. If there is no match in the family then outside person with matched HLA tissues.
