Description
Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet is a combination of Amlodipine and Lisinopril. It is an anti-hypertensive medicine used for the treatment of high blood pressure. It relaxes your heart muscles and widens the blood vessels which decreases blood pressure and helps your heart to pump blood more effectively throughout your body. Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet shows common side effects like cough, dizziness, headache, tiredness, nausea, stomach pain, swelling in your ankles or feet. These symptoms generally disappear with time, contact your doctor immediately if they persist for a long time. Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet may cause dizziness and drowsiness, so avoid driving or taking part in work that requires concentration. Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet can be taken with or without food. Do not stop taking Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet without your doctor's recommendation as it can lead to a sudden increase in blood pressure. You should be careful while getting up suddenly from a sitting or lying down position, as this medicine can cause dizziness and fainting in some cases. Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet can interact with other medicines. Inform your doctor about any medications that you may be taking and also about any medical conditions that you may be having like heart and liver problems. Allergy

Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet is not recommended if you have a known allergy to any of the ingredients of this medicine. A serious side effect of this medicine is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms such as a skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.

Aliskiren

Avoid taking Aliskiren (a medicine used to reduce blood pressure) and Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet together due to the increased risk of serious side effects. This risk is especially high in the elderly population and if you have diabetes and/or kidney problems.

Pregnancy

Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use if you are pregnant as it may harm your foetus. Inform your doctor if you plan to get pregnant so that a safer alternative may be prescribed based on your clinical condition.

Breast-feeding

It is not known if Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet passes into breastmilk. Hence, it is not recommended for use while breastfeeding unless prescribed by your doctor.
General warnings

Hypotension

Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet causes a decrease in blood pressure. If you have conditions such as volume depletion (excess loss of salt and fluid in the body due to excessive vomiting, diarrhoea, burns, kidney problems) or if you are treated with high-dose diuretics (medications that increases the removal of water and salt from the body via urine), this medicine is not recommended for use as it may decrease your blood pressure to dangerously low levels.

Hyperkalaemia

Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet may increase the potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalaemia). It should be used with caution if you have hyperkalaemia. Your doctor will suggest tests to monitor your potassium levels regularly. Avoid potassium-rich foods (potatoes, bananas) and other medicines that may increase potassium levels (potassium-sparing diuretics and potassium supplements) during treatment with Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet.

Liver disease

In rare cases, Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet may cause an increase in liver enzymes and serum bilirubin. So, you may develop jaundice in such a condition. Your liver function will be closely monitored by your doctor during treatment with Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet. He may adjust the dose of this medicine or switch to a safer alternative as per requirement.

Cough

Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet may cause a persistent non-productive cough (dry cough). It is resolved when the medicine is discontinued. But you should stop the medicine only if your doctor suggests you do so.

Coronary artery diseases

Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have coronary artery disease (a condition where the blood vessels of your heart are damaged, mainly due to build-up of plaque) as it may worsen your condition. Your doctor will adjust the dose of this medicine or replace it with a safer alternative depending on your clinical condition.

Use in children

Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 6 years.

Impaired kidney function

Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have kidney problems due to the increased risk of worsening your condition. Your doctor will suggest tests to closely monitor your kidney functions while you are taking this medicine. He may adjust the dose or replace the medicine with a safer alternative based on your clinical condition.

Driving and operating machines

Missed Dose

Angioedema

Cardiogenic shock

Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use in case of cardiogenic shock (a life-threatening situation in which your heart suddenly stops pumping enough blood to the body) since it may worsen your condition.
Food interactions
Consumption of grapefruit juice is not recommended during treatment with Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet as grapefruit juice can increase the level of absorption of this medicine in your blood. This could lead to excessive lowering of blood pressure or worsening of the side effects.

How it works
Amlovas L (5/5 mg) Tablet is a combination of Amlodipine and Lisinopril. Amlodipine relaxes the heart muscles and the blood vessels. It reduces the pressure on them, thereby lowers the blood pressure Lisinopril decreases the formation of angiotensin II (a substance that tightens the blood vessels). Thus, it relaxes the blood vessels and promotes the smooth flow of blood. The combination of Amlodipine and Lisinopril uses both mechanisms to cause greater relaxation of the heart and blood vessels which reduces blood pressure and strain on the heart.
