Description
Amloz AT 25 Tablet is a combination of Atenolol and Amlodipine. It is an anti-hypertensive medicine used for the treatment of high blood pressure. This medicine works by relaxing the blood vessels, making the blood flow easily, thus lowering blood pressure. Amloz AT 25 Tablet shows common side effects like swelling in your ankles or feet, headache, sleepiness, dizziness, tiredness, and upset stomach. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Amloz AT 25 Tablet can be taken with or without food. The dose will be decided by your doctor. Do not stop the treatment abruptly as it can cause unwanted side effects. Inform your doctor about all the medicines and supplements you are taking as this medicine can interact with them and can cause side effects. Amloz AT 25 Tablet is not used in children below 12 years of age, pregnant and breastfeeding women unless prescribed by your doctor. This medicine is not recommended if you have heart problems that cause a slow heartbeat, abnormal rhythm, or insufficient pumping of the blood as it can worsen your condition. If you have any pre-existing kidney and liver problems and other medical conditions, inform your doctor about them.

Allergy

Cardiogenic shock

Cardiogenic shock is a sudden life-threatening condition in which your heart is not able to pump enough oxygen-rich blood to meet your body's needs. Amloz AT 25 Tablet is not recommended for use in such conditions as this medicine weakens the contractions of your heart and slows down the heart rate, which further depresses your heart functions and lowers your blood pressure.

Heart block greater than first degree

Heart block is a condition where the heart beats very slowly or with an abnormal rhythm.Amloz AT 25 Tablet is not recommended for use if you have a heart block greater than first degree as this medicine weakens contractions of your heart and slows down the heart rate, which can deteriorate your condition.

Sinus bradycardia

Amloz AT 25 Tablet is not recommended for use if you have sinus bradycardia (a slow type of heartbeat). This medicine can affect the electrical impulses that regulate the heart functioning resulting in excessively low blood pressure.

General warnings

Hypotension

Amloz AT 25 Tablet should be taken with caution if you have hypotension (low blood pressure) as it will further decrease your blood pressure. Also, if you are taking high-dose diuretics (water pills) or are being treated for volume depletion (excess loss of salt and fluid due to severe diarrhea, vomiting, burns and kidney problems) this medicine is not suitable for you.

Coronary artery diseases

Amloz AT 25 Tablet should be taken with caution if you have coronary artery diseases (a condition where the blood vessels of your heart are damaged, mainly due to the build-up of plaque) as it may affect the functioning of your heart and worsen your condition. Your doctor will suggest tests to regularly monitor the functioning of your heart while you are on this medication.

Kidney disease

Amloz AT 25 Tablet should be taken with caution if you have pre-existing kidney problems. This medicine may get accumulated in your kidneys and damage them further. Your doctor will suggest tests to regularly monitor your kidney function.

Use in children

Amloz AT 25 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Heart failure

Heart failure occurs when your heart muscle is not able to pump blood normally. Amloz AT 25 Tablet may further weaken the contractions of your heart and slow down the heart rate. Hence it has to be used cautiously if you have heart failure. Your doctor will closely monitor your heart function while you take this medicine.

Major surgery

Amloz AT 25 Tablet can interact with anaesthesia and excessively lower your blood pressure. Furthermore, this medicine also affects heart functioning, which is not suitable for major surgery. This medicine is usually stopped for some days before and after the surgery. Inform your doctor about this medicine if you plan to undergo any kind of surgery.

Diabetes

Amloz AT 25 Tablet should be taken with caution if you have diabetes as it may mask symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels) such as tremors, tachycardia (increased heart rate), and blood pressure changes. Your doctor may either adjust your dose or check your blood sugar levels frequently to use this medicine safely.

Hyperthyroidism

Amloz AT 25 Tablet should be taken with caution if you have hyperthyroidism (high levels of thyroxine in the body). Abrupt withdrawal of Amloz AT 25 Tablet can lead to thyrotoxicosis (an excess of thyroid hormone in the body) and thyroid storm (severe complications of untreated hyperthyroidism). To minimize this risk, your doctor will gradually stop this medicine by reducing doses over a period of 1 to 2 weeks.

Driving or operating machines

Use of Amloz AT 25 Tablet may cause drowsiness or dizziness, especially at the beginning of the therapy. Hence, avoid performing activities that require high mental alertness like driving or operating machines unless you know how Amloz AT 25 Tablet affects you.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take the dose of Amloz AT 25 Tablet at a given time, then take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

Never take more than the prescribed dose. If you have intentionally or accidentally consumed more than the prescribed amount of Amloz AT 25 Tablet, then you might feel headache, confusion, fever, change in the heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, etc. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice these symptoms.

Consumption of grapefruit juice is not recommended during treatment with Amloz AT 25 Tablet. Grapefruit juice can increase the level of absorption of this medicine in your blood. This could lead to excessive lowering of blood pressure or worsen the side effects.

Amloz AT 25 Tablet is composed of Atenolol and Amlodipine. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and relaxes the heart muscles and the blood vessels by preventing contractions and improves blood flow. Atenolol is a beta-blocker that blocks the action of certain substances on the heart. It causes the heart to beat slowly and with less force, which lowers blood pressure. It also causes relaxation of the blood vessels to improve blood flow.
