Description

Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet is a combination medicine used in the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (chest pain or chest discomfort). Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet helps to lower your blood pressure, thereby reducing the chances of future heart attack and stroke. Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet causes side effects like swelling of your ankles and feet, headache, tiredness, change in taste, and stomach upset. It also causes dizziness and drowsiness, so do not drive or do any activity that requires your mental focus after taking this medicine. Avoid consuming alcohol with this medicine. Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet can be taken with or without food. Your doctor will advise the dose to be taken based on your condition. Do not stop the treatment abruptly without consulting your doctor. Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet can interact with and affect the actions of other medicines. Hence it is advised that you inform your doctor about all other medicines and medicinal supplements that you are taking. Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet is not recommended to be used in children, pregnant and breastfeeding women unless prescribed by your doctor. Chronic stable angina is a brief episode of pain, squeezing, pressure, or tightness in the chest caused by heavy physical activity which increases the blood pressure and body’s oxygen demand. Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet Tablet is used in the treatment of chronic stable angina.

Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet decreases the heart rate and blood pressure which can be detrimental in this condition.

Sinus bradycardia

Avoid the use of Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet if you have sinus bradycardia (a slow type of heartbeat). This medicine can affect the electrical impulses that regulate the heart functioning resulting in excessively lower blood pressure.

Hypotension

It is recommended to monitor your blood pressure during the treatment with this medicine.

Kidney diseases

The elimination of Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet from the body is reduced in kidney disease. Close monitoring of your kidney function is recommended during treatment with this medicine.

Use in children

Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age due to the lack of safety and efficacy data.

Major surgery

During any major surgery, Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet may interact with the anaesthetic drug leading to excessive lowering of the blood pressure. Furthermore, this medicine also affects the function of your heart. Treatment with this medicine is usually stopped for some days before and after the surgery. Your doctor may replace this medicine with another suitable medicine as required.

Diabetes

Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet may mask the symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) such as tremors, irregular heartbeat and blood pressure changes.

Hyperthyroidism

Abrupt withdrawal of Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet can lead to an increase in the levels of the thyroid hormone in the body. To minimize this risk, this medicine is gradually tapered off over a period of 1 to 2 weeks.

Driving or operating machinery

Use of Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet may cause drowsiness or dizziness in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities that require high mental alertness like driving a vehicle or operating heavy machinery during treatment with this medicine.

Missed Dose

If you have missed a dose of Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet at a given time, then take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

If you have intentionally or accidentally consumed more than the prescribed amount of Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet, then you might experience headache, confusion, fever, change in the heartbeat, nausea, vomiting etc. Contact your doctor immediately for further guidance.

Asthma

Patients with asthma should not use Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet as it can trigger an asthma attack. Your doctor may change the medicine with another suitable alternative in such cases.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve due to increased intraocular pressure (high pressure inside the eyeball). This can lead to blindness. Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet helps to lower this intr-ocular pressure. However, it should be administered with caution in patients suffering from glaucoma as it may severely lower intraocular pressure leading to undesired side effects. Your doctor will adjust the dose for its safe use.

How it works

Amlong A (5/50 mg) Tablet is composed of Amlodipine and Atenolol. Amlodipine works by relaxing the heart muscles and blood vessels. Atenolol blocks certain substances (catecholamines) which increases blood pressure. Together these medicines relax the blood vessels and reduce the heart rate, promote a smooth flowing of the blood. This causes lowering of your blood pressure to normal levels.
