Description

Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet is an antibiotic medicine that contains ciprofloxacin. It is used for the treatment of bacterial infections that affect your skin, joints, lungs, or urinary tract. It is effective against a large number of bacteria. It kills or prevents the growth of bacteria that causes infection. It should be used to treat bacterial infections only. It is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet shows common side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet can cause muscle damage, usually in your ankle. Once an antibiotic is started, it is always recommended to finish the entire course of treatment to prevent bacterial resistance. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet can be taken with or without food. For the ease of remembering, take Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet around the same time every day. Take Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet one-two hours before or after taking antacids as they increase the time taken by this medicine to show its effect. Take Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet two hours before/after taking dairy products as they can affect its absorption and decrease its beneficial effects. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet should be avoided during pregnancy due to the risk of adverse effects on developing joints of the foetus. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet is not known to be harmful but it can pass into breast milk in small amounts, so if you are breastfeeding it is advised to consult your doctor before using it. Avoid Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet if you have kidney disease or tendon issues as it can worsen your condition.

What is it prescribed for?

Community acquired pneumonia

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) refers to pneumonia (lung infection) wherein one gets infected in a community setting. CAP can be bacterial or viral. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet is used to treat community-acquired pneumonia caused by bacteria like Mycoplasma pneumonia, Streptococcus pneumonia etc.

Bronchitis

Bronchitis is the swelling and irritation of the airways that regulates air passage in your lungs. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet is used to treat bronchitis caused by bacteria.

Cystitis

Cystitis is the swelling of the urinary bladder usually caused by a bacterial infection. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet is used to treat cystitis caused by bacteria like E.coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Prostatitis

Prostatitis is the swelling of the prostate gland located under the bladder in men. This gland produces the fluid semen, that carries sperm. It affects men of all ages and is more common in men aged 50 and above. Symptoms include difficulty urinating, pain in the groin, pelvic area or genitals. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet is used to treat prostatitis caused by a bacterial infection.

Gonococcal infection

Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by bacteria (Neisseria gonorrhoea) that infects both men and women. It spreads during vaginal, oral or anal sex, without protection. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet is used to treat the gonococcal infection.

Joint infection

A bacterial joint infection is a serious and painful swelling in your joints. It is also known as bacterial or septic arthritis. Bacteria can get into your joint causing infection which leads to pain, swelling, redness, and loss of movement. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet is used to treat joint infections caused by bacteria.

Pneumonia with cystic fibrosis

Pneumonia with cystic fibrosis is an inherited or genetic disease that causes thick mucus to build up in your lungs and nasal polyps (fleshy growth in your nose). Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet is used to treat this condition caused by bacteria.

Pyelonephriits

Pyelonephritis is the swelling of the kidneys due to bacterial infection. This infection starts in your urethra or bladder and spreads through the ureters to the kidneys. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet is used to treat Pyelonephritis.

Inhalation Anthrax

Anthrax is a rare but serious bacterial infection caused by Bacillus anthracis. It is transmitted through air, food, and water contaminated with anthrax spores. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet is used for the treatment of inhalation anthrax that occurs when you breathe in anthrax spores.

Plague

Plague is a serious bacterial infection caused by Yersinia pestis. It is spread through contact with infected fleas. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet is used in the treatment of plague.

Allergy

Tendonitis or tendon rupture

Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet can cause muscle damage especially in old age. Do not use Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet if you have tendonitis (swelling of fibres that attach bone with muscles) or tendon rupture (a partial or complete tear of the tendon- the tissue that connects muscle to bone).

Myasthenia gravis

Myasthenia gravis is a skeletal muscle condition characterized by severe weakness of any of the muscles under your voluntary control, including the arms and legs. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet should be avoided if you have such a problem because it may worsen your condition.

General warnings

Muscle damage

Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet can cause muscle damage usually on the tendons that surround your ankles. Inform your doctor if you feel pain, numbness, or tingling sensations in your muscles.

Antibiotic resistance

Finish your entire course of treatment with Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet, even if the condition gets better, to avoid antibiotic resistance (a condition where the bacteria become resistant to antibiotics). If you still feel unwell after completing your antibiotic course, consult your doctor.

Diarrhoea

Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Get emergency medical help if you experience severe diarrhoea that is watery or bloody. Consult your pharmacist/doctor before taking anti-diarrhoeal medication.

Driving or operating machinery

Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet may cause dizziness, confusion, or disorientation. Hence, do not perform activities such as driving vehicles or operating machines if you experience any of these symptoms.

Kidney diseases

Use Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet with extreme caution if you have kidney problems due to the risk of kidney damage. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine based on your condition.

Other medicines

Inform the doctor about the use of all your other medications before starting treatment with Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet. Avoid using Tizanidine (a muscle relaxant medicine) and caffeine-containing products while taking Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet as they may interact with this medicine.

Antacids

If you are taking an antacid containing aluminium and magnesium salts for indigestion, it can increase the time it takes for Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet to show its effects. It is recommended to take this antibiotic at least one hour before or two hours after taking antacids.

Missed Dose

Try not to skip a dose of Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet. And if a dose is skipped, do not add it up to the next dose.

Overdose

Never take more than the prescribed dose. Seek emergency medical attention if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet.

Gastrointestinal Diseases

Use Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet with extreme caution if you have gastrointestinal diseases, particularly colitis (swelling of the inner lining of the colon), since it may worsen your condition.

QT Prolongation

Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet may cause heart rhythm problems called prolonged QT intervals (an electrical heartbeat disturbance) if you are taking medications for heart conditions. It may result in fast, rapid, and irregular heartbeats.

Food interactions

Taking caffeine along with Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet can increase sleeplessness, nervousness, and anxiety. Avoid coffee or medicines containing caffeine while taking Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet.
Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet will not show its desired effects if you take it with dairy products (milk and milk products). Maintain a gap of at least two hours between Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet and dairy products.
Avoid using Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet along with multivitamins with minerals. If needed it is suggested to take this medicine before four hours or after six hours of taking multivitamins with minerals.

Never take more than the prescribed dose. Take this Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet at around the same time daily. Do not chew or crush the tablet in your mouth. Do not give your medicine to other people even if their condition appears to be the same as yours. Ciprolet 100 MG Tablet works by stopping the action of a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase. It destabilises DNA and prevents the growth of bacteria, thereby kills them.
