Description

Huminsulin U 40 IU Injection is used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Insulin is a natural substance produced by the body which helps in utilizing the glucose for energy production. The patients with diabetes mellitus may not be able to utilize glucose due to the insufficient production of insulin or due to the body's inability to use the insulin produced or both. This medicine helps in the utilization of glucose and controlling blood glucose levels in such patients. Patients are advised to follow a strict exercise and diet regimen along with this medicine to get the best possible effect.

What is it prescribed for?

Type 1 Diabetes mellitus

This medicine is used in the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes mellitus, a lifelong condition in which the pancreas does not produce sufficient insulin to control the blood sugar level.

Type II Diabetes Mellitus

This medicine is used in the treatment of Type II Diabetes Mellitus, a lifelong condition in which the insulin produced by the body cannot be used properly by the cells to convert the glucose into energy.

Drowsiness

This medicine may cause hypoglycemia. Symptoms of hypoglycemia include drowsiness, impaired judgment, and difficulty with concentration. Hence, it is advised that you do not perform any activities that require high mental alertness such as driving a vehicle or operating heavy machinery immediately after administering this medicine.

Use in infusion pumps

Huminsulin U 40 IU Injection is not recommended for use in insulin infusion pumps.

Missed Dose

Administer the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Seek immediate medical attention or contact the doctor if an overdose of this medicine is suspected. Hypoglycemia may occur in sequential stages if too high doses of Huminsulin U 40 IU Injection are administered. For mild hypoglycemic episodes, oral glucose or sugary products can be used to avoid severe hypoglycemia. If there is severe hypoglycemia, IM or SC glucagon or IV glucose needs to be administered by a trained healthcare professional. If there is no response to glucagon within 10 to 15 minutes, IV glucose is administered. It is recommended to give oral carbohydrates to avoid the relapse of hypoglycemic episodes when consciousness is regained.

Hypokalemia
