Description

M-Cid Plus Syrup is a combination of Norfloxacin and Metronidazole. It is used in the treatment of infections of the stomach, intestines and urinary tract. This medicine is mainly used in children with infections caused by parasites (an organism living in another organism for its survival). M-Cid Plus Syrup works by stopping the growth of microorganisms responsible for infections. M-Cid Plus Syrup may show some common side effects such as stomach pain, difficulty in sleeping, headache, nausea, vomiting etc. Consult your child's doctor if these side effects persist. Do not give this medicine if your child is allergic to it. M-Cid Plus Syrup is taken on an empty stomach, as prescribed by your doctor. Try giving this medicine at the same time every day to maintain a constant level of medicine in your child's body. Finish the entire course of treatment even if your child starts to feel better, to avoid antibiotic resistance. M-Cid Plus Syrup is not recommended to be used in infants below 6 months of age. Inform your doctor about all the pre-existing conditions and your child's current medications to avoid any side effects. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

What is it prescribed for?

Intestinal amoebiasis

Amoebiasis is a parasitic infection of the intestines that leads to diarrhoea, stomach pain, and dehydration. This infection may not show symptoms in some cases. M-Cid Plus Syrup is used as first-line therapy for this infection.

Diarrhoea

Diarrhoea is a common symptom with loose and watery stools that are more than 3-4 times a day. This can occur due to various reasons such as medications, food, stomach infection conditions, an upset stomach, etc. M-Cid Plus Syrup is used in treating diarrhoea by slowing down the movement of food and water in your gut.

Infections of urinary tract

Urinary tract infections are a condition in which parts of the urinary system (the kidneys, bladder etc) gets affected by infection-causing bacteria. It may cause pelvic pain, increased urge to urinate, pain with urination and blood in the urine. M-Cid Plus Syrup is used to treat infections and prevent it from progressing.

Allergy

Tendinitis

Tendinitis is a condition where the connective tissues between your muscles and bones (tendons) become inflamed. Avoid taking M-Cid Plus Syrup if you have this condition as this medicine can compromise your tendon function and increase the risk of injury, especially in your weight-bearing joints.

General warnings

Liver disease

M-Cid Plus Syrup is converted in liver to become active. This medicine should be used cautiously as an affected liver will not properly convert the medicine into its active form. This can increase the chance of side effects and toxicity. Your doctor can adjust your dose or replace it with a suitable medicine if required.

Antibiotic resistance

Incomplete course of M-Cid Plus Syrup may cause antibiotic resistance (ability of bacteria to defeat the antibiotic). Ensure to complete the entire course even if your child starts feeling well.

Myasthenia gravis

Myasthenia gravis is a long-term condition that leads to varying degrees of skeletal muscle (muscles attached with bones) weakness and fatigue. M-Cid Plus Syrup is not recommended to be used as it can worsen your condition.

Missed Dose

Give M-Cid Plus Syrup as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume to the scheduled time. Do not double the dose to make the missed dose.

Overdose

Consult your doctor in case you suspect an overdose of M-Cid Plus Syrup.

QT Prolongation

M-Cid Plus Syrup may cause a heart rhythm problem called prolonged QT intervals (an electrical heartbeat disturbance) if you are taking heart medications. It may result in fast, rapid, and irregular heartbeats. Your doctor may closely monitor you and/or adjust your dose as required.

Colitis

Take M-Cid Plus Syrup with extreme caution if you have gastrointestinal (stomach and intestines) diseases, particularly colitis (swelling of the inner lining of the colon), as it may worsen your condition. Ask your doctor for dose adjustments or another suitable medicine in such cases.

Kidney Disease

Take M-Cid Plus Syrup cautiously if you have kidney problems as an affected kidney will not filter this medicine properly. This can increase the risk of kidney damage. Dose adjustments may be required, based on your clinical condition.

Food interactions

M-Cid Plus Syrup will not show its desired effects if consumed with dairy products. At least two hours gap should be maintained between this medicine and dairy products.
Avoid using M-Cid Plus Syrup along with multivitamins with minerals. It can be taken before 2 to 4 hours of taking multivitamins with minerals or after 4 to 6 hours of taking it.

How it works

M-Cid Plus Syrup is composed of Norfloxacin and Metronidazole. Metronidazole interferes with the DNA of the bacterial cell and thereby stops the protein synthesis processes. Norfloxacin stops the action of a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase. This helps to kill or prevent the growth of bacteria in the body.
