Description
Loette Tablet is a combination medicine used for oral contraception (prevention of pregnancy). It is also used for the treatment of moderate acne vulgaris in adult patients who desire oral contraception. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients yet to achieve menarche (the first occurrence of menstruation).

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use if the patient has episodes of abnormal bleeding from the vagina due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Breast cancer

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known history of breast cancer due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Stroke

This medicine is not recommended for use if you have had a bleeding disorder of the brain or have suffered from a stroke recently since it may worsen the patient's condition.

Heart and blood vessel disorder

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients having a disease of the heart or blood vessels such as deep vein thrombosis, recent heart attack, other blood clotting disorders, etc., due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Estrogen-dependent tumor

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients having cancer which is attributed to abnormal levels of the hormone estrogen in the body for a prolonged duration.

Liver disease

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known history of liver function impairment due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Use of this medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy in the immediate future. Contact your doctor if you suspect a pregnancy while being treated with this medicine.

Breast-feeding

General warnings

Existing pregnancy

This medicine should not be used if you are already pregnant or planning a pregnancy in near future. A pre-existing pregnancy should be ruled out before taking this medicine.

Effect on menstrual cycle

Use of this medicine can impact the onset and duration of the menstrual period after use. It may also make the bleeding light or heavy. Any unusual effect of this medicine that lasts for more than 5 days should be reported to the doctor.

Sexually transmitted disease

This medicine will not provide any protection against diseases that transmit via sexual contact.

Driving or Operating machinery

This medicine should be used with caution due to the increased risk of symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness, etc. Avoid performing any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating heavy machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Weight gain

Use of this medicine may cause moderate to significant weight gain and hence, it should be used with caution if you are obese or are suffering from obesity-related disorders.

Surgeries

The use of this medicine should be discontinued at four weeks prior to a surgical procedure and 2 weeks after a surgical procedure, under the supervision of your doctor. Alternate means of contraception should be considered based on the clinical condition.

Infections

Use of this medicine, especially for a prolonged duration, may increase the risk of an infection. Any instance of infection after the use of this medicine should be reported to the doctor. Appropriate corrective measures and/or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Depression

Use of this medicine has been associated with an increase in the symptoms of depression and hence, it should be used with caution in patients who are currently suffering or have suffered in the past from depression. Close monitoring of the patients for any changes in mood or behavior is advised. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition.

Diabetes

This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from diabetes due to the increased risk of altered blood sugar levels. Close monitoring of blood glucose levels is recommended for such patients. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Other diseases

This medicine may affect the signs and symptoms of many diseases and may worsen the patient's condition. It is advised that you report to the doctor all your previous and current medical conditions before beginning treatment with this medicine.

Jaundice

Use of this medicine may cause yellowing of the eyes and skin due to its effect on the liver and the gallbladder. Report the presence of any symptom indicative of jaundice to the doctor on priority. Therapy with the medicine should be discontinued if jaundice is detected. Alternate means of contraception should be considered based on the clinical condition.

Pediatric use

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients who have not achieved menarche (the first occurrence of menstruation).

Blood clots

Use of this medicine has been associated with an increased risk of blood clot formation. This risk is especially higher in patients suffering from diseases of the heart and blood vessels, elderly patients, patients who smoke, etc. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor immediately. Intracranial hypertension

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients having a current or a past history of increased pressure around the brain (intracranial hypertension). Patients suffering from frequent and unpredictable headaches, difficulties with vision, etc. should report the use of this medicine to the doctor. Replacement with a suitable alternative should be considered based on the clinical condition.

Liver disease

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients having an impairment of the liver function due to a disease or any other contributing factor. Use of this medicine, especially long-term, should be stopped if jaundice or associated symptoms are observed. Replacement with a suitable alternative should be considered based on the clinical condition.

Fluid Retention and edema

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients suffering from edema or fluid retention due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Appropriate corrective measures, close monitoring of fluids and electrolytes, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary in some cases based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Eye disorder

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients having a pre-existing condition of the eyes since it may worsen the patient's condition. Use of this medicine may cause the blockage of blood vessels in the eyes causing partial or complete loss of vision. Any abnormality in vision, while using this medicine, should be reported to the doctor on priority. Appropriate corrective measures and replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Abnormal vaginal bleeding

This medicine should be used with caution if the patient has an episode of abnormal vaginal bleeding, especially if the intended use is for a long duration. It is advised to undergo a diagnostic test to ascertain the reason for the abnormal bleeding. Conditions such as endometrial hyperplasia should be ruled out before starting the therapy with this medicine. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Estrogen-dependent tumor

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients having a tumor caused due to abnormal levels of estrogen in the body. The tumor may be of the endometrium or the breasts. Hypertension

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients having high blood pressure. The risk of adverse effects on the heart and blood vessels are extremely high in such cases. Hepatic neoplasms

How it works
Levonorgestrel works by preventing the fertilization of the egg with the sperm. It also induces changes in the hormonal levels contributing to the prevention of pregnancy. Ethinyl Estradiol works by replacing or replenishing the hormone estrogen that is normally produced in the body.
