Description
Mahacef Plus (100/100 mg) Tablet is a combination medicine used for the treatment of typhoid fever and urinary tract infections in adult patients only. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients below 18 years of age.

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to Cefixime, other Beta-Lactam antibiotics, Ofloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, or any other inactive ingredients present along with these medicines.

Tendinitis or tendon rupture

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a history of tendon rupture or tendinitis (a condition in which the tissue connecting muscle to the bone becomes swollen and red) since it may worsen the patient's condition.

Myasthenia gravis

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a history of myasthenia gravis since it may worsen the patient's condition.

Pregnancy

This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine.

Breast-feeding

This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine. Your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding or to discontinue the medicine based on your clinical condition.
General warnings

Tendinitis and Tendon ruputure

Use of this medicine may increase the risk of developing tendinitis or tendon rupture during the treatment or several months after the treatment. This may affect your shoulders, hands, ankles, or other parts of your body. You are at a higher risk if you are more than 60 years of age or if you have undergone a transplant of kidney, heart, or lung. You are also at a higher risk if you are on corticosteroids such as dexamethasone, methylprednisolone, or prednisone. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor immediately. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition.

Drug-resistance

Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug resistant.

Drowsiness

This medicine may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or sleepiness and interfere with eyesight. Hence, it is advised that you do not drive a vehicle or operate heavy machinery during treatment with this medicine.

Photosensitivity

This medicine may make you more sensitive to sunlight or tanning lights. You are advised to use sunscreen and wear protective clothing to avoid adverse reactions to sunlight during treatment with this medicine.

Clostridium difficile-associated Diarrhea

Discontinue the use of this medicine as per the doctor's instructions if severe diarrhea occurs after receiving this medicine. This medicine may cause an imbalance in the microbial flora of the large intestine, decreasing the gut-friendly bacteria and promoting the growth of a bacteria called Clostridium difficile, resulting in severe diarrhea.

Bleeding disorders

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with bleeding disorders due to the increased risk of excessive bleeding. Regular monitoring of prothrombin time is necessary in such cases. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients with a history of seizure disorder and other central nervous system abnormalities since it may worsen the patient's condition. Report any incidence of tremors, restlessness, anxiety, confusion, hallucinations, etc., to the doctor on priority. Colitis

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients having a history of gastrointestinal diseases, particularly colitis, since it may worsen the patient's condition. QT Prolongation

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients with a history of QT prolongation due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. How it works
Cefixime works by interfering with certain processes that help the bacteria to grow and increase in number. Ofloxacin works by inhibiting an enzyme required for the bacterial DNA to replicate, thus inhibiting bacterial cell division. The combination is thus better effective than monotherapy for the treatment of typhoid fever and urinary tract infections.
