Description
Montaz 1 g Injection is a combination medicine consists of Ceftriaxone and Tazobactam. It is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections affecting the lungs, nose, throat, skin, urinary tract, etc. It is also used to prevent infections at surgical sites. This medicine works by interfering in the formation of the bacterial cell wall and eventually kills them. Montaz 1 g Injection is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Montaz 1 g Injection may cause side effects like diarrhoea, pain at the injection site, headache, weakness. Contact your doctor if any side effects are seen for a longer period. Avoid driving a vehicle or operating a machine after administration of Montaz 1 g Injection as it may cause dizziness or drowsiness and may affect your vision. Do not use this medicine if you are previously allergic to it. Montaz 1 g Injection should not be self administrated. It will be administered into your vein or muscle by a health care professional in a hospital or clinical setting. Your doctor will determine the number of doses and how often the injections should be given based on your condition. Once an antibiotic is started, it is always recommended to finish the entire course of treatment. Montaz 1 g Injection may not be suitable for all people. Allergy

Lidocaine

Calcium-containing products

Do not administer Montaz 1 g Injection in neonates (≤ 28 days) who are receiving calcium-containing intravenous solutions or infusions such as parenteral nutrition. This medicine may precipitate along with calcium in the lungs and kidneys.

Pregnancy

Montaz 1 g Injection may be safe in pregnancy to treat bacterial infections. It is not known to cause birth defects when taken by pregnant women. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine if the benefits outweigh the risks.

General warnings

Hemolytic anemia

Immune-mediated hemolytic anaemia has been reported in patients receiving Montaz 1 g Injection. Discontinue the medicine if you develop hemolytic anaemia until the exact cause is determined.

Prothrombin time

There may be alterations in prothrombin time (a test used to check for bleeding problems) while receiving Montaz 1 g Injection. Regular monitoring of prothrombin time may be necessary, especially in patients with low vitamin K levels, malnutrition, or patients with liver diseases.

Antibiotic resistance

Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria develop the ability to defeat the medicine that was intended to kill them. Hence, to avoid such resistance you should always complete the entire course of treatment with Montaz 1 g Injection even if you feel better after receiving a few doses.

Liver disease

Regular monitoring of the liver enzyme levels is necessary while administering Montaz 1 g Injection and even after treatment with this medicine is completed as this medicine may increase the levels of the liver enzymes.

Diarrhoea

Montaz 1 g Injection can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Inform your doctor if you experience severe diarrhoea while receiving this medicine.

Use in neonates

Montaz 1 g Injection is not recommended for use in neonates less than 28 days of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Administration

When used intravenously, Montaz 1 g Injection should be infused over a duration of at least 30 to 60 minutes. When used intramuscularly, the medicine should be injected over a duration of 2 to 4 minutes.

Driving or operating a machine

Montaz 1 g Injection may cause dizziness hence do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating a machine.

How it works
Montaz 1 g Injection is a combination of Ceftriaxone and Tazobactam. Ceftriaxone works by preventing the formation of bacterial cell walls. This helps in stopping the growth and multiplication of the microorganism, eventually killing it. Tazobactam inhibits some chemicals produced by the bacteria and makes the bacteria more sensitive to ceftriaxone activity.
