Description
Soventus-D Syrup is a combination medicine used to relieve symptoms caused by conditions such as a common cold, nasal congestion (stuffy nose), allergies, etc. It can also be used to manage the dry cough. It works by suppressing the cough centre in your brain and clearing the mucus from your nose and throat so that it is easy to cough it out. Soventus-D Syrup may show side effects like nausea, vomiting, headache, weakness, etc. These symptoms may subside after some time. Consult your doctor if these side effects bother you. This medicine may cause dizziness or sleepiness, so avoid doing activities that require mental focus like driving vehicles. Soventus-D Syrup can be taken with or without food as directed by your doctor. Take it every day at the same time for the ease of remembering. The dose and duration depend on the severity of your health condition. Do not stop using this medicine without consulting your doctor. Soventus-D Syrup is not recommended if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you have kidney, liver, or heart problems, diabetes (high blood sugar levels) or hypothyroidism (low levels of thyroid hormone). Consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding.

Allergy

Gastric ulceration

Gastric ulcers are the sores that develop in your stomach and intestine lining due to excess acid production. Avoid taking Soventus-D Syrup if you have gastric ulceration as it may worsen your health condition.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is an age-associated prostate gland enlargement (enlargement of the prostate gland located below the urinary bladder) that can cause urination difficulty. Soventus-D Syrup is not recommended for use in such cases as it may cause increased difficulty in passing urine.

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO)

Soventus-D Syrup is not recommended for use if you are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs; a type of antidepressant) due to the increased risk of major side effects. A time gap of at least 14 days should be maintained between stopping therapy with MAOIs and starting therapy with this medicine.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition where the pressure in the eyeballs is abnormally high that can damage the optic nerve and lead to eventual loss of vision. Soventus-D Syrup is not recommended for use in such cases as it may worsen your condition.

Asthma

Asthma is a condition in which your airways narrow and swell and may produce extra mucus, making your breathing difficult. Soventus-D Syrup is not recommended for use in such cases; it may increase the risk of further lung problems like respiratory tract blockage.

Smoking

Soventus-D Syrup is not recommended for use if you have a cough related to smoking as it can increase the swelling of your airway tubes and could worsen your condition.

Other medicines

Soventus-D Syrup may interact with many other medicines and may cause significant side effects. Hence, it is advised that you report all your current medicines to your doctor, including any herbs and supplements, before beginning treatment with this medicine.

Epilepsy

Soventus-D Syrup should be used with caution if you have epilepsy (a brain disorder that occurs due to sudden neurological disturbances which result in uncontrolled jerking of the body and behavioural changes).

Kidney/Liver Disease

Soventus-D Syrup is taken with caution if you have liver/kidney problems. Damaged organs may lead to the accumulation of the medicine, increasing the risk of side effects. Frequent monitoring of liver/kidney functions and/or dose adjustments are often required in such cases.

Driving or Operating machinery

Soventus-D Syrup may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines after taking this medicine.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Soventus-D Syrup as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Take Soventus-D Syrup exactly as prescribed. Drink plenty of water with it to avoid stomach irritation. Shake the bottle well before use. Do not consume this medicine after the expiry date. Soventus-D Syrup is given for a short time therefore it is recommended you complete the whole treatment for maximum benefits. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller quantities or for longer duration than recommended. Keep this medicine away from children and pets. Avoid taking Soventus-D Syrup with other cough medicines. Be careful while standing up from a lying or sitting position to avoid feeling dizzy. Consult your doctor if your symptoms are not getting better after a few days of taking Soventus-D Syrup.

How it works
Soventus-D Syrup is composed of Ambroxol, Chlorpheniramine and Dextromethorphan. Ambroxol works by promoting mucus clearance and easing a productive cough. Chlorpheniramine blocks the action of certain substances produced by your body which induce allergic reactions. Dextromethorphan blocks the signals from your brain that trigger the cough reflex and thus it helps suppress the cough.
