Description
Vilazine 20 mg Tablet is a medicine that is used to treat the symptoms of depression. It works by regulating the levels of a chemical called serotonin which helps regulate anxiety, mood, and happiness and alleviate the symptoms of depression. It is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age. Vilazine 20 mg Tablet may cause some common side effects like nausea, vomiting, difficulty sleeping and diarrhoea. Consult your doctor if these side effects persist or worsen. Do not drive vehicles or operate heavy machines as Vilazine 20 mg Tablet may cause dizziness and drowsiness. Do not use Vilazine 20 mg Tablet if you are allergic to it. Vilazine 20 mg Tablet should be taken with food at the same time every day. Do not skip any dose and ensure completion of the full course of treatment for the best results, even if you feel better after taking a few doses. Do not stop taking Vilazine 20 mg Tablet without consulting your doctor as it may cause withdrawal symptoms and worsen your condition. Vilazine 20 mg Tablet may not be suitable for all people. Inform your doctor if you have seizure disorders, pre-existing kidney, heart, or liver problems, before beginning treatment with Vilazine 20 mg Tablet. Also, inform your doctor if you notice any unusual changes in your behaviour or mood, if you experience a worsening of your depression, or if you have any suicidal thoughts. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before using Vilazine 20 mg Tablet.

Allergy

Avoid taking Vilazine 20 mg Tablet if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, as well as any behavioural changes and suicidal thoughts.

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)

Vilazine 20 mg Tablet is not recommended for use if you are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) due to the increased risk of a condition called serotonin syndrome (a condition where your body has too much of a chemical called serotonin, usually because of a medication or combinations of medications). A time gap of at least 14 days should be maintained between stopping treatment with MAOIs and starting treatment with Vilazine 20 mg Tablet.

Vilazine 20 mg Tablet is not recommended for use in pregnancy unless necessary. If you are pregnant, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Breast-feeding

Vilazine 20 mg Tablet is not recommended for use in breastfeeding unless necessary. If you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
General warnings

Suicidal behavior

Evidence suggests that Vilazine 20 mg Tablet may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts in people with major depressive disorder (MDD) and other mental health conditions. Consult your doctor if you notice any changes in your mood or behaviour while taking this medicine. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine or may prescribe a suitable alternative based on your condition.

Abnormal bleeding

Vilazine 20 mg Tablet should be used with caution due to the increased risk of bleeding. This risk is especially higher if you are using other medicines such as NSAIDs, aspirin, warfarin, etc. Report any symptoms such as unusual bleeding or bruising, blood in stool or urine, etc., to your doctor. Your doctor may monitor your blood cell counts if necessary based on your clinical condition. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine or may prescribe a suitable alternative based on your condition.

Discontinuation of treatment

Do not stop taking Vilazine 20 mg Tablet without consulting your doctor. Abrupt discontinuation may cause withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, headache, anxiety, dizziness, and irritability. Your doctor will reduce the dose gradually based on your therapeutic response.

Serotonin syndrome

Vilazine 20 mg Tablet should be used with caution due to the increased risk of a serious condition called serotonin syndrome. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor on priority. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine or may prescribe a suitable alternative based on your condition.

Ocular effects

Vilazine 20 mg Tablet should be used with caution due to the increased risk of visual disturbances. This risk is especially higher in people with a history of eye disorders. Consult your doctor if you experience any difficulty in your eyesight.

Other Medicines

Vilazine 20 mg Tablet may interact with many other medicines and may cause severe side effects. Hence, it is advised that you inform your doctor about all your current medicines including any herbs and supplements before beginning treatment with this medicine.

Drowsiness

Vilazine 20 mg Tablet may cause drowsiness or sleepiness. It is advised that you do not perform activities that require high mental alertness such as driving vehicles or operating machines after taking this medicine.

Missed Dose
